  • JACQUES MARSH WILDLIFE REFUGE
    130 acres of National Forest land, including 7 ponds and 18 islands. The marsh area attracts a variety of wildlife, including wetland birds, mule deer, elk, bald eagle (during winter months) and other birds of prey, and songbirds. From the traffic light at the junction of State Hwy. 260 and Penrod Road in Lakeside, proceed north 1.5 miles on Penrod Road to Juniper Drive. Take this dirt side street through a residential area and over a cattle guard. Follow the road curving to the right and over a second cattle guard to a parking lot and information kiosk 0.7 miles from Penrod Road.

  • LITTLE PAINTED DESERT

    Colorful clay formations of red, violet, green and gray, laid down by an ancient ocean and carved by the wind, can be enjoyed in the 660 acres. The panorama can be viewed from the scenic overlook. Facilities include picnic armadas and a restroom at the park. View an exotic combination of colors and natural rock formations and be sure to take your camera! This is the perfect setting for a sunset picnic dinner! Hiking trails and picnic tables are available. Take I-40 east from Winslow to Exit 257, north on Highway 87,  15 miles on the left.

  • PETRIFIED FOREST
    With one of the world's largest and most colorful concentrations of petrified wood, multi-hued badlands of the Painted Desert, historic structures, archeological sites, and displays of over 200-million-year-old fossils, this is a surprising land of scenic wonders and fascinating science.
  • Casa Malpais Archaeological Park
    Situated on terraces of a fallen basalt cliff along the upper Little Colorado River, the site dates from late Pueblo III to early Pueblo IV (AD 1250-1325) times. Casa Malpais appears to incorporate features of both early and late Mogollon Culture settlement patterns.  (928) 333-5375
